Update
We look forward to the Dallas District Attorney’s office presenting the cases with amended death certificates to the Grand Jury. We understand additional indictments will not have an impact on trying the serial killer; he will not be tried for each individual homicide. However, we do firmly believe it is important he is charged and held accountable for each homicide.
We continue to support the Bixler family as they work to achieve justice for their mother, Marilyn Bixler. As of this writing, her cause of death is “undetermined after scene investigation”. The Bixler family is owed a continued investigation confirming the facts of how their mother died and holding the murderer accountable for her death. This case must not fall through any more cracks in the system.
We received an overview of three bills State Senator Nathan Johnson is working on for the upcoming Texas Legislative Session beginning January 12, 2021.
Proposal One – Let the state certify establishments so we know they have put into place the recommended safety standards. Monitor entrances. ID all visitors. Employee background checks. Cooperation with law enforcement. Accountability and transparency.
Proposal Two – Protect seniors from leases that limit their options. No forced arbitration. Employee background checks. No penalties for employees who should be required to speak with law enforcement and social workers. Hold establishments liable for violating these simple, cost-free, tax-free safety standards.
Proposal Three – Enforce current state regulations on shops that buy and resale jewelry. Fund agency to oversee compliance and make shops that buy and resell jewelry adhere to existing regulations. The lack of compliance contributed to the length and scale of the killing spree.
These proposals will not add an undue or unfair burden on senior living establishments. These proposals will ensure improved transparency and accountability.

Gratitude
As we approach Thanksgiving, we find much to be thankful for –
We are thankful that we have found support with each other. The days spent alone dealing with this tragedy were very difficult. Finding other victim families who shared the same sadness, frustration and hope for improvement has been healing.
We are thankful for The Dallas Morning News and their continued dedication to tell our story and report on updates of indictments.
We are thankful for the State Senator Nathan Johnson’s diligent work drafting legislation to present in the upcoming session to improve senior security.
We are thankful for the establishments that took the necessary measures to correct and improve their security issues so their residents will be safer going forward.
We are thankful that those with loved ones in senior living establishments are now becoming aware of vulnerabilities and are asking questions on how to keep their loved ones safe. We hope the awareness continues to spread.
We are thankful to our subscribers and donors. Their support makes it possible for us to do our work.
We are thankful to the contacts now friends sharing their knowledge and experience. Their assistance educates us and guides us to our next steps.
We wish all of you a happy safe Thanksgiving holiday – SOSS
